London Shop Closing for Refurbishment

Dear Customer,

Cadenhead’s Whisky Shop and Tasting Room, Chiltern Street, London, will be closing for refurbishment at 6pm on Saturday 30th October 2021.

Although an exact date for reopening is yet to be established, the team will be back with a fresh new look in Spring 2022.

At proprietor Sean Ivers’ instigation, the shop will come under the ownership of the wider Cadenhead Retail Ltd operation from the end of this month.

This will allow whiskies to be purchased from www.cadenhead.shop or by telephoning 020 7935 6999 until the shop reopens early next year.

The London shop is currently holding a number of bottles on behalf of certain customers. If this applies to you, then you will be able to pick up your bottles or have them shipped out to you for a standard delivery charge. Please contact our head office by email to [email protected] to arrange a suitable date for collection or your delivery.

We are also aware that some customers have raised issues with historic orders. If you can provide proof of purchase then we will investigate the situation on your behalf and if a satisfactory solution cannot be found we will be happy to escalate matters to the police and/or any other relevant authorities. Requests of this nature should be directed to the [email protected] email address with your proof of purchase and any other relevant information.

We look forward to seeing you again in London when the shop reopens and to serving you from our existing network of shops in the meantime.

Cadenhead’s Tasting Panel

The Cadenhead’s Tasting Panel have gathered together again to taste the latest releases and provide their personal feedback. Check out their thoughts below.

Blair Athol 12yo – This Highland dram has strong fruity elements from the very beginning. Its juicy nature provides a pleasing vibrancy throughout. Notes of gooseberries, white grapes and apples maintain a freshness until the finish fades.

Ord 11yo  –  Matured in a Cognac hogshead, this intriguing whisky impressed the panel and we think you will enjoy it too. Thick and chewy, there is a lemon flavoured sweetness on the palate that transforms into caramel chocolate in the finish.

Glenrothes 20yo – An easy to drink, sweet dram full of dessert notes like banoffee pie, butterscotch ice cream and Battenberg cake. The panel thinks that this will prove popular with a wide range of dram drinkers, regardless of how seasoned a whisky lover they are.

Ardmore 10yo  – Matured in a Pinot Noir cask and has meaty notes on the nose to entice you. As you drink you will experience fruity notes, in fact our panel pinpointed a number of berries that they could identify in the taste and finish, as well as a slight saltiness before the peat smoke grows. An intricate and complex dram that will have you returning for more.

Caol Ila 9yo – This Islay whisky provides the smoky character you want and expect. It is present throughout the dram but melds seamlessly with other elements, such as sweetness in the nose and finish and with the coastal notes you may also pick up. We enjoyed tasting this one tremendously and we know you will too.

Miltonduff 13yo – Zesty citrus notes are present throughout, as you would anticipate given its maturation in a Jamaican rum cask. The significant rum influence made this was a real favourite with the team. A dynamic dram that has a biscuity undertone to complete each mouthful.

Springbank 10yo – The typical salty, coastal notes of a Campbeltown dram are present immediately in the nose. The panel also enjoyed the slightly spicy aspects of this dram as well as the light fruity notes. The peat in the finish shows that this dram is well balanced and inviting.

Heaven Hill 12yo – A light and floral bourbon with fruity notes that add a pleasant sweetness to every mouthful. Its smoothness makes it approachable to all drinkers, regardless of experience and the panel particularly liked the notes of pear poached in wine on the finish.

Cadenhead’s Tasting Panel

Obeying our long-standing tradition, the Tasting Panel have gathered together to share their thoughts on these new Cadenhead’s whiskies.

Aultmore-Glenlivet 11yo – This Speyside whisky has notes of dark fruits and mixed berries which lead to a slight sweetness throughout. Matured in Bourbon and Palo Cortado casks, it was immediately popular with the panel.

Fettercairn 13yo  –  Sweet with earthy notes providing real depth. The nose sets the tone for this dram, letting drinkers know what is coming, with the palate featuring a creaminess and the finish delivering a slight spiciness to top it all off.

English Distillery Co. 12yo – The smokiness builds through this entire dram, with the finish giving the panel notes of burnt orange and a smouldering pine forrest. Smooth and syrupy with hints of vanilla.

Auchentoshan 11yo  – Matured in Bourbon casks and has sweet, fruity elements from the start. Chewy and very tropical, providing the dram with a vibrant character that the panel enjoyed.

Glentauchers-Glenlivet 10yo – Matured in Oloroso, Manzanilla and Bourbon casks, this is truly an intriguing dram. Dessert notes and hints of dried fruit are present throughout, combining to create a sweet, lovable whisky.

Glen Keith-Glenlivet 22yo – Last, but certainly not least, is this creamy and smooth Glen Keith. Easily drinkable, its velvety nature gives the dram a luxurious mouth feel. The finish also has slight spicy and nutty notes.

Dailuaine-Glenlivet 12yo  –  Very sweet with earthy notes providing real depth to this whisky’s character. The nose sets the tone for this dram, letting drinkers know what is coming, with the palate and finish delivering what is promised.

Glenfarclas 19yo – Maturing in a refill sherry cask since 2019. Thick and creamy texture, with fruity notes throughout. Perfect as a dessert whisky in the opinion of the panel.

Inchgower 12yo  – This whisky has been in an Oloroso sherry cask since 2020. Very fruity and juicy, with chocolate and cake notes providing additional sweetness. Delightfully approachable and will keep you coming back for more.

Longrow 17yo – Springbank’s more peaty expression, this was fully matured in a rum barrel and you can taste the cask influence throughout. The expected smokiness and typical Campbeltown characteristics are also present.

Strathclyde 32yo – Been in a refill sherry cask since 2019. The notes of fresh, warm bread carry successfully from the nose to the taste with the finish providing some sweetness. We’re big fans of grain whisky at Cadenhead’s and this dram is a perfect example why.

Teaninich 12yo – Smokiness is evident throughout, and it is very smooth and rich to taste. Notes of fruit make it sweet at points. Interesting and complicated. Been in a red wine cask since 2019.

Rum

Jamaican 13yo – Soft and sweet. Will prove  accessible to inexperienced rum drinkers but also has a vibrancy that will appeal to others, too.

Trinidad 18yo – Fresh and floral with minty notes and a constant sweetness. An interesting and characterful rum that kept the panel wanting more.

Monymusk 17yo – Every sip is a mouthful, you really feel like you are drinking something substantial every time you go back to the glass. Notes of butterscotch, toffee and Crème Brûlée gives you a strong indication of what it’s like.

Caroni 21yo – Slight smokiness on the nose immediately sets it apart from the other rums in this release. Once you taste it, you will realise how smooth it can be. Reminded the panel of a Mai Tai cocktail.

Hampden 20yo – Fruity with an oily texture, it develops a sweet, cake like element to its character too. It’s the varied aspects of this rum that impressed the panel and will hopefully captivate you as well.

Check out the full release below – the official UK launch happens on Friday 27th August 2021. Please note that the launch in our European shops may vary due to shipping times.
