Cadenhead’s Tasting Panel
As is tradition, the Tasting Panel have gathered together to share their thoughts on this new Cadenhead’s whiskies and rums.
Whisky
Bunnahabhain 10yo – This Islay whisky is light and sweet, with slight fruit notes. Easy to drink – the panel believe this dram is very accessible to all kinds of whisky drinkers.
Dailuaine-Glenlivet 12yo – Very sweet with earthy notes providing real depth to this whisky’s character. The nose sets the tone for this dram, letting drinkers know what is coming, with the palate and finish delivering what is promised.
Glenfarclas 19yo – Maturing in a refill sherry cask since 2019. Thick and creamy texture, with fruity notes throughout. Perfect as a dessert whisky in the opinion of the panel.
Inchgower 12yo – This whisky has been in an Oloroso sherry cask since 2020. Very fruity and juicy, with chocolate and cake notes providing additional sweetness. Delightfully approachable and will keep you coming back for more.
Longrow 17yo – Springbank’s more peaty expression, this was fully matured in a rum barrel and you can taste the cask influence throughout. The expected smokiness and typical Campbeltown characteristics are also present.
Strathclyde 32yo – Been in a refill sherry cask since 2019. The notes of fresh, warm bread carry successfully from the nose to the taste with the finish providing some sweetness. We’re big fans of grain whisky at Cadenhead’s and this dram is a perfect example why.
Teaninich 12yo – Smokiness is evident throughout, and it is very smooth and rich to taste. Notes of fruit make it sweet at points. Interesting and complicated. Been in a red wine cask since 2019.
Rum
Jamaican 13yo – Soft and sweet. Will prove accessible to inexperienced rum drinkers but also has a vibrancy that will appeal to others, too.
Trinidad 18yo – Fresh and floral with minty notes and a constant sweetness. An interesting and characterful rum that kept the panel wanting more.
Monymusk 17yo – Every sip is a mouthful, you really feel like you are drinking something substantial every time you go back to the glass. Notes of butterscotch, toffee and Crème Brûlée gives you a strong indication of what it’s like.
Caroni 21yo – Slight smokiness on the nose immediately sets it apart from the other rums in this release. Once you taste it, you will realise how smooth it can be. Reminded the panel of a Mai Tai cocktail.
Hampden 20yo – Fruity with an oily texture, it develops a sweet, cake like element to its character too. It’s the varied aspects of this rum that impressed the panel and will hopefully captivate you as well.
Check out the full release below – the official UK launch happens on Friday 27th August 2021. Please note that the launch in our European shops may vary due to shipping times.
